WELLNESS CENTER PLUS.

After conducting site analysis, we were to design a Wellness Center PLUS within an internal space of 900sqm in the Kepong Botanical Gardens, bordering the suburban neighbourhood of Taman Ehsan. It is to serve as communal health and recreational facility and we were required to understand the specific needs of the ‘users’ of the design project so as to foster a sense of community in our design using various complex spatial organization typologies and a variety of passive strategies for sustainable design. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with the environment and site and provide the best spatial experiences in fostering a sense of community.

Development is advancing rapidly, causing youngsters to leave Machap new village into the city to make a living, causing a decrease in population. We are to bring the forgotten past to life, and conserve the the village & memories of people in Machap which started to fade through time. It acts as a DOORWAY TO LOST MEMORIES that links the past to the present which also serves the community as a learning tool about culture and history over time. By incorporating intangible elements of multisensorial experiences in Machap, the repository evokes a journey.

REFLECTION.

For our final project, we were assigned to design a wellness center that serves as a communal and health facility for the users. I was able to understand the specific needs of the ‘users’ of the design project and reflect on the importance of developing a design that fosters a sense of community and also responds to the immediate site context. The design process involved a long and tiring process of trial & error and ideation, however, the analysis conducted was a very interesting discovery as it was my first time producing a small-scale community building within a garden context. It was quite pressuring to complete the project as there were several submissions in the final week. I think that if I had more time, I could have produced a better outcome. In addition, the workshops provided were very helpful as they allowed us to further understand certain aspects of the project. I have also been able to improve my understanding of computer software such as Revit, Lumion, and Photoshop in this project.

Lastly, I would like to thank my tutor, Ar. Alina Choong for guiding me through this journey as it did ease me from confusion at certain points of this project and has taught me many new things. She was always ready to help me whenever I was lost and pointed out places for improvement. This module was really enjoyable for me as I was able to express my design and further improve myself.
