project brief.

experiencing space - spatial transition.

EXPERIENCing space.

In a group of 4 members, this project allows us to develop a basic understanding of modifying elements and how it affects spatial experience through analyzing selected precedent studies. After conducting 2 precedent studies on the selected elements, we were tasked to propose a scheme of spatial translation in the form of semi-open architecture by using modifying elements that we have analyzed through conducting 2 case studies. After choosing a hypothetical site, the spaces will be translated from a chosen narrative to be interpreted and designed.

REQUIREMENTS. 2 x A3 precedent studies, 4 x A3 presentation panel

DURATION. 23 August 2021 (Week 1) - 09 September 2021 (Week 3)

STUDY OF
MODIFYING ELEMENTS
.

In groups of 4, we were to analyse precedent studies on chosen modfying elements which were TEXTURE & TOUCH, and LIGHT & SHADOW, After choosing a narrative, we were to interpret it and translate it into space.

REFLECTION.

From this assignment, I was able to reflect on the importance of modifying elements such as light and shadow, as well as touch and texture, and how to apply it to architecture in order to create spatial poetics and experiences. It involved a long and complex process of understanding, however, the analysis conducted was a very interesting discovery as it was my first time analyzing selected buildings and how the architect played with the modifying elements.

As we were a group of 4, all of the tasks were equally allocated to each member. Fortunately, it was a very fun experience as there we had teamwork and communicated frequently. However, it was quite stressful as our outcome was a little rushed, and think that we could have produced a better outcome if we had more time. Overall, this assignment has definitely has allowed me to generate a better understanding of how to apply modifying elements to create spatial poetics and memorable experiences.
